Tensegrity is a type of structure with an integrity based on a balance between tension and compression. The muscular-skeletal system is a structure which exhibits tensegrity because it is a synergy of muscle and bone with every tissue being affected by and affecting other tissues. Gross anatomical structures such as muscles and bones, and even microscopic structures, such as rigid and elastic cell membranes, are strengthened by the unison of these tensioned and compressed parts.
